After three years of waiting, the 2021 Red Rubber Showdown kickball tournament finally returned to Seattle. This highly-anticipated event saw teams from all over the Pacific Northwest come together for an intense competition. The tournament was full of thrilling plays, exciting matchups, and a few surprise upsets that made for an unforgettable experience for everyone.

Oregon brought the heat with three new powerhouse kickball squads: Hot Sauce Committee, P-Town Pounders, and Smell the Roses. A mix of Oregon’s best kickball talent & built to win. They faced Seattle’s own Base Gods, Hold My Kick and rookies Pitches Be Crazy in a battle for the Pacific Northwest.

The Base Gods and Hot Sauce Committee faced off in an intense match that showcased the talents of both teams. Despite the Base Gods’ considerable experience, they were unable to overcome the strength of their opponents, ultimately falling 1-4. This was their first loss in over two years and a reminder that even the most well-prepared team can be beaten.

Viewers were kept enthralled by the second game between Base Gods and Smell the Roses. It was an intense match that kept people on their toes until the very end. With the score tied at two, was broken open by a single error. Pitcher Anthony Brown made a spectacular defensive play to secure a 4-2 victory for the Base Gods.

The gods certainly had their work cut out for them in the game between the P-Town Pounders . After a mistake in the opening play saw the lead off kicker Trey kick a homerun, they managed to fight back and tie the game. However, their defense eventually unraveled and they were unable to prevent their opponents from winning.

The Gods were on the brink of elimination as they faced play Hot Sauce Committee Again in the semi-finals. The pressure was on as their defensive chemistry had failed them in previous matches and they needed adjustments to stay alive in this tournament. The stakes were high for the semi-finals and each player was determined secure a spot in the finals.

It was a game that had the potential to be a classic. The gods were poised for victory, but uncharacteristic errors and personal disputes cost them the game in the later innings. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to contain their opponents, who scored another three runs in the final inning to win 2-6. It was a heartbreaking loss for the gods and one that will not soon be forgotten.
